Easter Sunday/Roommates

Last Sunday was Easter Sunday, and it was fabulous! This is a picture of most of my roommates (I miss you, Krystin Bateman! but you were in Boise!) on Easter Sunday looking our Easter best! I love every one of you girls! Plus, who can deny how good we look out there in the Easter Sun?
I also went to Rebecca's house for Easter dinner, which was delicious Ham and funeral potatoes and green bean casserole and fresh made bread. It was great. I am still living off of the leftovers, and in fact I am starting to worry about rotting food. I eat leftovers every meal, but I am just a girl - how much do you think I eat?!
Anyways, life is going pretty great right now. Brianon is as cute as ever, and we went to Indian food for lunch today in anticipation of the festival of colors tomorrow. I just love spending time with Brianon! She is so funny and always smiling...especially lately...she knows why... ;o). She is also a great friend who is always conscious of ways she can make others have a better day. I love that about her.
Krystin is great fun. I somehow always manage to catch her when I have something on my mind, and she is such a great listener! Also, she throws in a few laughs among the serious conversations, which I love. We went to dinner today at Mimi's Cafe with Stephanie Young. I think we all ate ourselves to death, but it was definitely worth it! Not only was the food great, but the company was fabulous!
Ruth and I went on an adventure to the Urgent care center last night. She has strep throat! I am super sad about that because I miss hearing her sing and being able to talk to her without the fear that I could be the next white boily throat victim! (but I bet Jordan is in the most danger of that!) Hehehe. Seriously though, I love Ruth! She is everything you would ever want in a friend, and more! I am so blessed to have her around. She is a super dedicated student, and even more dedicated to people. I love that about her!
Becca is up to her usual shenanigans - the library, dating, and whatnot. I love that Becca is always up in the mornings about the same time as I am. It is so nice to be able to start the day off with pleasant human interaction rather than the grunts and groans of all those "non-morning" people. Plus, her cynical sarcasm is just what I need sometimes.
Kristina is dating a boy, and yes, K*, I think he is cute. She is even happier now than she normally is, which I didn't even think was possible! It is really fun to have someone so energetic and lively around the apartment.
Well, I think I pretty much covered all the roommates. I hope you all read this and know how much I love you! Good luck with finals and projects and everything! I am going to miss you all this spring!

Purim Party!

Thursday we celebrated Purim with some of my old Hebrew classmates. It was a blast! On Purim you reenact the story of Esther. Whenever you see or hear someone say Mordecai you cheer as loud as you can, and for Hamen you boo and hiss as loud as you can. The goal of the holiday is to get so drunk that you can't tell the difference between Mordecai and Hamen. So I guess we don't celebrate Purim to it's entirety in that respect, but we did have a lot of sparkling apple cider and we were so riled up and excited that at least I couldn't tell the difference. I even had a part in the play this year! I was "Plotter #2." I plotted to kill the king by putting dynamite in his guitar. Pretty much stole the show, but I don't want to brag. ;o) Well, if anyone wants to put on a killer showing of Esther, I have the perfect script!

The Long-awaited Update!

Okay, I just realized that I have not written in FOREVER, so I think I will change that right now. A little update. Not much is new at all actually, just living life as a college student should...playing until I have procrastinated to the max, then working until I can play again! It has been a pretty rough couple of weeks with midterms and projects due, but all is well, and I am surviving! That is pretty much it!

Kenya Elections

So my brother Eric is serving a mission in Kenya right now. It is all very exciting, but the recent elections have turned out to be more violent than expected. If you are interested in reading a little more about what is going on over there, here is a link to an article describing the situation:

My brother is just outside of Eldoret, which is the place that the article is mainly about. I know that God will keep his missionaries safe, but a few prayers wouldn't hurt! If you could pray that the violence will end and that all the missionaries will be safe, I would appreciate it.

The week after Thanksgiving

Well, it was only a couple days ago that I realized that I have absolutely no food (except for Ramen, of course) and even worse, no wheat flour! I went to the store top get some so I am baking wheat bread today and I am so excited! Now that I will have bread, life is pretty sweet. I have an amazing sister that lives only ten minutes away that I absolutely LOVE visiting! We watch Chuck and eat and laugh and play with Addison. Really, what more could I want out of life? Rebecca, I love you! (and I love Bart and Addison too, but neither of them are likely to read this). I will admit I frequently stress out over school and money, but when that happens I just step back and look at what I have, and that is a lot! I really miss Eric right now, which is another reason having Rebecca and Bart so close is such a blessing. I mean, no one can possibly replace him. He is my twin brother and I have never felt close to anybody in my life, but it is nice to have people around who really understand where you are coming from and where you are trying to go. Life gets hard sometimes, but family makes it a little easier!

Morning

So it is Sunday Morning and I am trying to figure out what to do with myself. Usually we have church at 9:00, but today we have stake conference at 2 instead. I went to Borders books last night and picked up "100 Simple Secrets of Happy People." I got it because it is dad's favorite book and I really missed him yesterday. I know that I will be home for thanksgiving soon, but I just want to hear all of Dad's cheesey jokes again! Luckily I do have one friend up here that makes similar jokes to Dad, so he is keeping me sane.
Anyways, my roommate told me nt to eat breakfast because we were going to have pancakes and bacon. While this is a true statement, I already ate because there is no doubt in my mind that I still have two or three hours before anyone even gets up, and I have already been up for over an hour. I guess that is part of college life, right? Sleeping in till the afternoon. I like going to bed and getting up early. It gives me time and energy to write on my blog or watch Chuck. Oh yeah! That is what I wanted to do! Got to go!

No Subject

Well, it has been a while, but I am updating now. Here is the DL: I was dating someone, but now I am not. No big deal, it just happened. I enjoyed the month of October, but it was so busy I wanted to faint! Still, overall it went pretty well. The other day in my Humanities class we talked briefly about journal writing. It was funny becasue this one guy in my class said that he sugar-coated everything, even his journal. My professor said that when his kids are reading it in the future, they are going to feel like bad people and want to go kill themselves because dad is so composed all the time and they feel like emotional wrecks. I laughed a little...well, a lot. Then I recalled my last journal entry...

Nothing to Say

I am avoiding Homework, but am almost done anyways so it is not tha big of a deal. Things are pretty busy lately. If I can get a full nights sleep and still be sane I count it as a great day. Wish I had something better to say, but alas, I am thoughtless. I am mostly writing because Brianon wanted me to do so. I like her, so I did it. Well, back to Naked Economics.

His Dark Materials

So I find myself reading, which is not that common for me. Since Winter semester ended I have read at least eleven books, and I am in the middle of three more! I have enjoyed every book I have picked up this summer, but my favorites are the "His Dark Materials" trilogy. This trilogy includes The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, and The Amber Spyglass. They are of the Fantasy genre. I don't want to write too much about them for fear of giving the plot away to unsuspecting readers, but these books are simply amazing. The Golden Compass took my breath away. It was so exotic and exciting that the entire time I was reading I was wishing I could just live it! The Sublte Knife was, at least for me, a much slower and harder read simply because it did not keep the same pace as its predecesor, but it was the perfect prelude to The Amber Spyglass. This final book stole my heart. This final book brings the story to a very gratifying close. The entire trilogy was simply breathtaking. I loved the setting(s), the characters, the symbolism behind the characters, the idea of a physical manifestation of a soul (called a daemon), the inner and outer conflict between good and evil, and basically everything there is to love about a book. It was a long journey through this trilogy, but there is no doubt that it was an adventure that was worth adventuring. Everyone should read these books.

The Cave

So, as most of you know my family is moving this summer. Well, we officially have to be out of our old house now, but we can not move into our new house for a few weeks because they are still finishing contruction on it. As a result, we are currently residing in what has lovingly been dubbed "the Cave." I have no major complaints about the Cave - it is great... except that the pink paint is peeling off of the bathroom walls and falling to the blue sticky nastiness that stubornly insists on inhabiting the floor, there is practically no lighting at all, I share a bedroom (and a bed) with my messy, snoring teenage sister and the toilet sprays out at me when I try to flush it (that last one is the most exciting). My bedroom is painted a splendid, splotchy yellow. My makeshift desk is a dollhouse table that is about a foot and a half tall, and the chair is eight inches. Quite the adventure, that's for sure. On the up side, my bedroom is much bigger than the one in my apartment and my little sister is out of town for the next two weeks so I get to sit around and play my keyboard and guitar as much as I want. Very bohemian, isn't it Brianon?

Wicked!

There is nothing in the world like seeing Wicked on the third row! I can honestly say I couldn't be happier! I had almost forgotten that my previous obsession with Wicked was totally justified! Luckily, I have learned the error of my ways and am re-wickidified. This is a picture of Me, Stacy, Alison and Megan Hilty (Glinda) She was absolutely amazing!

Good news!

So in the past couple months I have oficially lost 10 pounds! Congrats to me! As a reward to myself I bought myself the first season of the series Dead like Me. Oops! I can't wait to get it and watch it!

Dead Like Me

Morbid title, but don't get any ideas. I have recently discovered the most amazing TV series ever. It is on SciFi. I don't really have anyone to tell about it, so I thought I would post a blog about the amazingness that it embodies. The show follows a girl named Georgia. She was 19 years old when she died, and now she is a grim reaper. She lives in the real world and has a real job and everything, except she also...how shall we say it?...reaps people. She has a whole bunch of really quirky and funny reaper friends and lives just as if she were alive, but shes not. It is totally cool and fun to watch.

Summer Vacation Starts!

Last Satruday I officially started my summer vacation! I went to the Salt Lake City Art Festival with Rebecca, Bart, Heather, Charles, Sam and Dalin. I had a great time and I am looking forward to an amazing summer!

Just Stuff...

Well, I am still at school. After this semester it will have been an entire year...without stopping. I thought it would be fun to stay for Spring Term, and it sould be. I have amazing roommates and a totally fun ward. But it is not fun. I am sure things will get better, but it has been hard. Really hard. Nobody knows, and even though I am writing this on a public blog, no one is going to read it so they still won't know. No good. Just no good. There is one up side to right now though. I am watching James Bond. Anyone who knows me probably knows that I usually watch James Bond when I feel upset or alone. Defense mechanism. Works most of the time. But not lately. I don't want to do anything lately. I am sick of sculpture, absolutely regreting my guitar class, and would rather die than play another game of racquetball. I guess everyone has to feel bad sometimes. Hope I get over it before too long.

There really is only so much baby television one can take without going totally insane. I fear I am about to reach that limit. We shall see if I survive.

Red Meat

Jeralee Johnson just got a whole bunch of meat from the cow her family slaughtered not too long ago, and she let me cook it. I just had the biggest, juiciest filet mignon that I have ever had. Thanks Jeralee.
